My First Car I got my first job when I was 15 years old. I worked part time at a gas station
pumping gas and fixing tires. I immediately started saving money so I could buy
my first car. In Canada, you could get your driver's license when you were fifteen
so I didn't have much time to save a lot of money. I was a bit of a car nut so I
really wanted to get my own car ASAP. As luck would have it, someone my dad knew
mentioned to him that he was selling his second car, a 1976 Triumph Spitfire. When
my dad told me about it, I got very excited. Then, he told me the price, a whooping
$2,000.00, a small fortune as far as I was concerned! After working for nearly a
year, I had only managed to save about $700.00, so I couldn't afford it. However,
dad took me to see it, just for fun. It was beautiful! A bright yellow two-seater
convertible sports car that would instantly make me the coolest kid in high school
if it was mine. It looked brand new and even my dad realized what a great price it
was. In fact, he offered to lend me the money to get it, if I really wanted to. I
thought about it all day, but finally decided not to buy it. I figured it wasn't a
very practical car and the insurance would likely be very expensive. To this day,
I think about that car more often than I like to admit. I've imagined driving to
school and impressing all my friends, thought about cruising through the Rockies
with the top down and listening to some good old rock'n' Roll. I don't want to say
I regret my decision, but if I could go back and do it again, I'm pretty sure I'd
go for it.
